My Bedtime Routine
Recently, I have been trying to perfect my bedtime routine to help me get better sleep and to help me fall asleep faster. I think we can all agree that it is absolutely miserable when you spend hours tossing and turning, trying to go to bed. One of my bad habits is using my phone for hours until I fall asleep. It can be difficult to form a nightly routine and stick to it. Here are some of my tips to help you get your beauty sleep.
Turn off any screens an hour before bed
This one is difficult for me. I love watching TV before bed or scrolling on my phone. I have started to commit myself to get in bed by 9 pm and turn my phone off. I will spend an hour doing some type of relaxing activity and then officially turn the lights off and go to sleep at 10 pm.
Do something relaxing before sleeping
This will look different for every person. Personally, I love reading before bed. It calms me down and makes me sleepy. I also love coloring and crocheting. These are just a few ideas. Some people like writing in their journals, listening to a podcast, etc. Find what works best for you and implement it!
Take a magnesium supplement before bed
Magnesium is known for helping your body relax and relieving stress. It is a great, natural way to help your body calm down before going to sleep. I always take one at least an hour before going to bed.
Make sure you have everything you need
I like making sure that I have everything done before getting into bed at 9 pm. I will brush my teeth, put my pajamas on, fill up my water bottle, etc. That way, once I get into bed at 9 pm, I don't have to get back out. I can spend an hour doing my relaxing bedtime activities, turn the lights off, and go straight to bed.
Pray or meditate
If you are religious, you might consider praying before going to bed. Speaking to God can help clear your mind and bring you comfort. If you enjoy meditating, that is another option as well. It can have the same effect and help you clear out your mind and calm your body before you go to sleep.
These are just a few of the strategies that have helped me sleep better. It is personal to every person, and it takes time to find a routine that works best for you. Start small by trying a few things and see what you enjoy. I hope these suggestions can help, and I hope you can all have the beauty rest of your dreams!
