Joseph Smith once said: “When persons manifest the least kindness and love to me, O what pow’r it has over my mind. . . . The nearer we get to our heavenly Father, the more are we dispos’d to look with compassion on perishing souls—[we feel that we want] to take them upon our shoulders and cast their sins behind our back . . . if you would have God have mercy on you, have mercy on one another.”

I've meditated on this quote and wondered how it can apply to news writing. In this day and age, people do not always publish information with the best intentions. False news circulates. Facts can be distorted. It is difficult to find reliable sources.

If one wants to be a credible writer who creates credible content, one needs to be trustworthy. Through his prophets, Christ teaches the manner that society should treat each other. When writing, it is essential to be compassionate, especially when covering sensitive topics. This can provoke empathy and foster connection amongst readers.

It is also important to be respectful in news articles. Writing in an unbiased, fair, and factual manner can assist in avoiding misinformation. One should strive for accuracy and balance in news coverage.

When publishing news articles, a person has the ability to advocate for positive change. Christ lifted others burdens and cast their sins away, and He expects us to do the same. Journalists can use their platform to advocate positive change in the world. Shedding light on important topics can help raise awareness.

Language is so powerful. It can change people's lives. Spreading correct information with love and compassion can truly change the world.
