Social Media and Preaching the Gospel

As social media has grown, so has our ability to share and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. I had the privilege of serving my mission during the pandemic. I will admit, it was a much different experience than the normal mission experience. Through through those differences, I was able to learn how to use social media for good and use it to hasten the Lord's work. I want to share 3 ways that you can use social media in order to share the gospel and lead by example.

When making a spiritual post, always include an invitation

I'm sure we are all familiar with sharing spiritual posts on social media. We share pictures from our prophet and apostles. We share uplifting posts from other members of the church. We share picture of us at church activities or watching General Conference. All of these things are amazing. But if you want to elevate your gospel sharing skills, I would invite you to always include an invitation along with your posts. For example, if you post a picture watching General Conference, invite your followers to do the same! If you post a picture of yourself at the temple, invite your friends and family who aren't familiar with the temple to message you with any questions they have. If you are showing yourself getting ready for church, invite people to attend with you. Invitations have so much power and they inspire people to take action! This action is necessary for people to make changes in their lives and come unto Christ. Making invitations might be daunting at first, but if you do it with love, people will always appreciate your gesture.

Post things that uplift and inspire others

One of my favorite ways to share the gospel is by living by example! This is what Christ did and why He stood out to many people. I remember being in high school and starting a new class. We had assigned seats and I was assigned to sit next to a boy that I didn't know. On the first day of class, we spoke briefly at an attempt to get to know each other better. We hadn't really deepened our conversation yet, but he proceeded to ask me if I was a member of the church. I was a little surprised by his answer, since we had not discussed anything that would lead him to that conclusion. I said, "Well... yes! But how did you know"? He continued to explain that he could tell by the light that shined in my eyes. I will forever remember this experience and it continues to encourage me to be an example to others because it really does make a difference, whether we realize it or not.

When you post on social media, make sure that your posts are uplifting and positive. They will make an impact on others. People will be drawn to you as a person and as a disciple of Jesus Christ. By sharing your light with others, they will feel prompted to ask you why you are so happy and how they can find that same light in their own lives.

Be open to answering and responding to people's questions

As you begin to post more about your spirituality and religious beliefs, people may come to you with questions. This is the goal! Even if people ask questions and nothing comes from them, you are planting seeds in their lives. Eventually those seeds will grow and those people will hopefully find the gospel. Encourage people to come to you and ask you questions about your faith. Try to always be respectful. Do not tolerate any disrespect. If there is a question you do not know, study it! It will help you grow your knowledge as well as other's knowledge.

I hope these suggestions are helpful and that you apply them in your lives, as you feel inspired. I know that as you do so that your faith in Jesus Christ will be strengthened and that you will be able to assist in the gathering of Israel.
